Kolar Project

Our Kolar workshop is located 60 kilometers east of Bangalore on the Bangalore-Chennai road. The town of Kolar has a population of 180,000 people and is the governmental headquarters for the District. Our workshop in Kolar was inaugurated in November of 2005 and has manufactured over 12,000 BioSand water filters. The facility is overseen by our managing director in India, RamaChandra Gowda, a mechanical engineer and long-time independent businessman manufacturing specialty hydraulic pipes.

RamaChandra is an active member of Rotary and has volunteered to take leadership positions in his local Club in Kolar as well as at the District level. RamaChandra and his wife Jaya have 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren. He has taken an active role in organizing and promoting training camps to teach other non-profit groups the BioSand water filter technology. There have been numerous individuals and organizations that have benefited from his knowledge and guidance and his personal attention and hospitality.
